🌟 All from Scratch – A Tai Chi Performance Like No Other! 🌟

An Original Tai Chi Performance Like No Other!

This month, our Tai Chi Club embarked on a creative journey fueled by dedication, collaboration, and a deep love for Tai Chi. At the heart of this effort is Enjoyment in Untroubled Ease Team (EUET), the club’s volunteer-based performance team. Driven by a shared passion for promoting mental and physical well-being, EUET strives to embody the essence of Tai Chi—cultivating harmony with nature and community through graceful movement and mindful practice.

From rewriting the lyrics of a beloved classic to synchronizing our movements to live singing, every element of our performance was crafted from scratch—an original tribute to the essence of Tai Chi.

Our performance, “Song of Tai Chi Sword” (太极剑之歌), was set to the melody of the classic Mandarin song Yi Jian Mei (一剪梅). With newly written lyrics, the song beautifully expresses the philosophy of Yin and Yang, the fluidity of Tai Chi sword techniques, and the harmony between body and mind. As the elegant voice of Ms. Fang Liqun filled the air, our dedicated Tai Chi practitioners demonstrated the simplified Tai Chi sword form, merging strength with grace.

The team, made up of seven ladies from our park sword class, worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. Each week, we met to design the choreography, ensuring that every movement flowed seamlessly with the rhythm and lyrics. We practiced diligently, refining our synchronization to present a performance that captured the spirit of Tai Chi. Every motion was intentional, every transition smooth, embodying the core principle of “人剑合一”—the unity of sword and person.

Approximate Interpretation in English

Tai Chi Sword Movements, Interwoven Yin and Yang
Sweeping, lifting, brushing, blocking—each move unfolds with grace.
Chopping, hanging, thrusting, pointing—each stance flows with agility.
Sword and person become one, spirals present in every motion.

Tai Chi Sword Intent, Circling Without End
Guiding the body with Qi, moving the sword with the body.
Upper and lower follow, intention and energy connected.
Motion and stillness alternate, emptiness and fullness intertwine.

Head upright, Qi sinks to the Dantian.
Yin and Yang, boundless and balanced.
Chest relaxed, back extended, elbows dropping, shoulders sinking.
Attack and defense, mutually generating and linking.
Tailbone centered, waist relaxed, hips sinking.
Hard and soft, harmoniously blended.
