Our Classes

Welcome to Tai Chi Club’s classes, where our mission is to make the art of Tai Chi accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience, at no cost. We offer in-person classes in the Baton Rouge area, including 24 Movements Taijiquan, 32 Movements Taijian, and 42 Movements Taijijian. The information in the corresponding class tabs was originally designed to help our in-person Tai Chi friends preview, review, and develop their skills in a supportive environment. For those unable to attend in person, our carefully selected demonstration videos, our self-produced instructional videos and back-view follow-along videos may also help you learn and practice at your own space and on your own pace. 24 Movements Taijiquan

The 24 Movements Taijiquan, officially called Simplified 24 Movements Taijiqun, was developed by a group of Taijiquan masters in China around 1956. It is a standardized and simplified form of Yang Style Taijiquan with. Repetitive movements were deleted and the sequence of steps was designed in a way to gradually progress from simple to intermediate, then to more challenging. The practice of this routine only take about 4-5 minutes to perform, yet give beginners an introduction to the essential elements of the art of Tai Chi, while retaining the traditional flavor and benefits.

32 Movements Taijijian

The Simplified 32 Movements Taijijian (Tai Chi Sword) form was developed as a standardized and simplified routine based on traditional Yang Style sword techniques in China around 1957. The sequence was designed to gradually introduce practitioners to the key principles of Taijijian, incorporating basic sword movements such as stabs, sweeps, and cuts. This form offers a balanced progression from simple to more complex actions, making it accessible to beginners while still reflecting the elegance and martial applications of traditional swordplay. The entire routine can be performed in about 3-4 minutes, providing a practical introduction to the art of Tai Chi sword.

42 Movements Taijijian

The 42 Movement Taiji Jian is a standardized Tai Chi sword routine that combines elements from Yang, Chen, Wu, and Sun styles. It is known for its beautiful, flowing movements that emphasize both grace and control, making it visually striking. The routine involves a number of single-leg balance techniques, adding to its complexity. As a result, it’s not beginner-friendly and is best suited for more experienced practitioners. The standard performance time of this routine is 4-5 minutes. This form is offered to small group of intermediate-level participants looking to refine their sword skills and challenge their balance, coordination, and fluidity.
