I’m really enjoying the October Tai Chi classes. The class size at the Main Library is just right, with engaged participants who bring great energy to each session. We completed movements 14-17 in the 24 Movements Taijiquan—some of the most challenging in this hand form routine. After each class, we’ve been staying for extra practice, and everyone seems to be keeping up well. I truly appreciate those who come in earlier and stay late to help with chairs and tables in the classroom.
Cameron, as usual, did an incredible job, especially demonstrating the martial art applications of each movement. He made me feel powerful. Unfortunately, I was so busy that I didn’t get a chance to take a class picture. But it’s okay; I believe we’re getting closer to forming a Baton Rouge Tai Chi team to practice this routine in the standard rytheme.
I finally found some time finishing all the needed follow along videos for the hand form. The relevant part for this month’s hand form class is here!
The sword class kicked off on October 5th with a strong start. October’s pleasant weather has made practicing Tai Chi outdoors at the beautiful LSU Hilltop Arboretum a true pleasure. We covered movements 1-5 in person, and both an instructional and follow-along version are now available on our YouTube channel.
Several participants shared that the sword form feels less challenging than starting with the hand form, which I believe reflects the solid Tai Chi foundation everyone has developed. I promised to keep teaching until everyone masters it—and I mean it!
Thanks to Yao, who took a group photo of the sword class—we all looked fantastic. The sword truly is an elegant extension of the arm, and everyone appeared confident and balanced, embodying the essence of Tai Chi.
The November Hand Form classes will be held from 6-7 pm on 11/3 (Movement 18 and 19) and 11/17 (Movement 20 and 21), while the sword classes will take place from 8-9 am on 11/2 (covering Movements 9 and 10) and 11/16 (covering Movements 11 and 12). No classes are scheduled over the Thanksgiving weekends. I’m also open to adding a sword review class if there’s interest.
I’m grateful for all the feedback and encouragement we’ve received. Looking forward to our progress in November!
